Inez G. Thomas' Obituary
Inez grew up in Bessemer, AL., the second of four children. This was during the Great Depression. Despite all the hardship, she did very well in school, English being her favorite subject. Inez was very good at sports û she played volleyball and basketball. She graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School. After school she took the civil service exam and began a job as a Stenographer for the Birmingham Police Department. This is where she met her future husband, Harold ôTomö Thomas. Tom was an excellent dancer and she use to say this is why she married him. They were married September 13, 1950. Together they raised six children: Danny, Tommy, Barry (Sherry) Kelly Jay, Tracy (Wayne Norrad) and Terry. Inez grew up Catholic and at one time considered becoming a nun. But that soon changed when she ôdiscovered boys!ö She later joined the Worldwide Church of God and remained with this congregation. The Thomas family moved to St. Louis in 1967, when her husband was transferred to the Small Arms Plant there; where he worked until his death in July of 1982. They enjoyed many of years supporting their talented, very athletic children. Inez finished out her life living with her baby son Terry, then third son Barry, and eventually due to a serious accident, she spent the last seven years in the Highland Health Care Center in Highalnd, IL. Inez was preceded in death by her parents: Henry & Janie (MamaJanie) George, her oldest son: Danny Thomas, her sister: Bernice Tamburello, her husband: Tom Thomas and lastly her brother, Henry George. Inez was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was affectionately known as MamaNez. And very much loved her family! Memorials may be made to Highland Health Care (1450 26th St. Highland, IL. 62249).
