Henry G. Stratmann Sr. Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Grade 4 AUS age 87 of Dupo, Illinois born September 17, 1927 in Millstadt, Illinois passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis, MO.
He was a graduate of Dupo Community High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Washington University, St. Louis, MO., with Majors in Accounting and Business. His civilian occupation included 14 years with Midwest Rubber Reclaiming Company in East St. Louis IL. as a Cost Accountant and 15 years with Lithocraft Studio Inc in St. Louis, MO., working as Vice President and Controller.
Mr. Stratmann was a World War II Veteran having served in the Western Pacific Theater.
He was an enlisted Man for 7 years with the grade of Master Sergeant. At that time he applied for and received a direct appointment as a Army Reserve Warrant Officer. He served as a Warrant Officer for 36 years. Assignments were with several Battalions, a Civil Affairs Group a 17 years with Headquarters 102d US Army Reserve Command, St. Louis, MO., serving as a Supply and Logistice Officer. Mr. Stratmann was retired from the Service in 1989 serving 43 years with the Active Army and Active Army Reserves. He was awarded numerous Decorations and Citations to include The Legion of Merit for sustained exemplary service, Meritorious Legion of Merit for sustained exemplary service, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oakleaf Clusters, Army Achievement Metal, Armed Forces Reserve medal with three Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation, Good Conduct Ribbon and other.
After retirement he conducted an Accounting and Income Tax Service in Dupo, IL.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dupo, IL., since 1938. After retiring he was active with the church as an appointed Trustee and member of the Finance Committee for 13 years.
He was a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Life member of the Reserve Officers Association, Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Member of the American Legion, member of the Institute of Management Accountants, member of the National Society of Tax Professionals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sheldon J. Stratmann Sr. & Emily H. Stratmann, nee Yahl, his brother, Sheldon J. Stratmann Jr., and his sister, Dorothy M. Stratmann.
Surviving are his wife, Helen C. Stratmann, nee Schrader, whom he married April 15, 1950, his daughter, Deborah (Kenneth) Collins of Licking, MO., his sons, Dr. Henry G. (Dr. Maryellen Amato) Stratmann Jr. of Springfield, MO. & David B. Stratmann of East Carondelet, IL., his brother, Eugene (Mildred) Stratmann of Worden, IL., his sister, Marcella Tansca of Mountain Home, AR., his grandchildren, Dr. Jared and Brett Collins of Licking, MO., Henry Stratmann III and Joseph Stratmann of Springfield, MO. He is also survived by other relative and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 2-6 p.m. at Dashner-Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, Ill.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 27, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dupo, Ill., with Father Paul Wienhoff, officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Mehlville, MO.
