Gloria Rose Salger's Obituary
Gloria R. Salger, 90, of Red Bud died June 13, 2023, at Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, IL. She was born Feb. 10, 1933, in Red Bud to Hugo and Clara L. (Piel) Goetting. She married Norman Salger on Aug. 27, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Red Bud and he preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 2000.
Surviving are one daughter: Cheryl Miller and a son: Kevin (Dana) Salger, both of Red Bud; 7 grandchildren: Jared (Mary Mudd) Miller of Baldwin, IL, Jim (Melanie) Miller of Denver, CO, Savannah (Nate Burrington) Salger of Evansville, IL, Brandon Fergus of Belleville, IL, Tylor (fiancé Jenna Otten) of Red Bud, Cody (Brooke) Koch, and Megan Reeves; 4 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Bernice Salger of Red Bud and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Keila Salger, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil (Judy) and Glennon (Elaine) Goetting and all the other of her husband’s brothers and sisters and their spouses.
Gloria was a life member of Red Bud VFW Auxiliary 6632. She held the position of Auxiliary President several times, plus many other offices. Gloria was very dedicated to the Auxiliary and loved going to the State Conventions.
Gloria was a long-time employee of Red Bud Regional in housekeeping and laundry and was thrilled when she was named employee of the month. She was known throughout the area for setting together and marking quilt tops. Her sewing machine was kept busy making wedding and baby quilts for others.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Leesman Funeral Home, Red Bud and Friday, June 16, 2023, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church. A funeral will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Scott Hojnacki officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with her husband.
