Gary F. Merkel's Obituary
Gary F. Merkel, 68 years, of Millstadt, IL, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis, MO. He was born October 21, 1954, in Poplar Bluff, MO .
Gary was retired from the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers, District 9. He was a member of Saint James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL. Gary was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed playing pool, and spending time with his many lifelong friends.
Surviving is his wife, Val Merkel, his daughter, Jackie (Fiancé Gage Robbins) Merkel, his granddaughter, Olivia Robbins, his aunt, Madeline "Meg" Merkel, he is the son-in-law to Twyla Wilinski and Barbara Collar, he is a brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, along with a dear friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his father, August Merkel.
Visitation will be will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL. Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL., with Fr. Marvin Volk, officiating.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Moms on a Mission and Saint James Catholic Church. Arrangements were handled by Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL.
