Eunice M. Wiatr's Obituary
Eunice Marie Wiatr, 84, of Red Bud, died Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Three Springs Lodge in Chester.
She was born January 18, 1941, along with her triplet siblings Eula and Eugene, in Red Bud to Theodore E. and Amelia Blumenschein Guebert.
Eunice was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud where she sang in the choir, served as substitute organist, and participated in many other activities. She graduated from St. John’s Lutheran School and Red Bud High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest and a master’s degree in education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
While studying in Carbondale, she met her husband, John A. Wiatr. They married on May 29, 1971, and they were blessed with over 54 years of marriage, four children, and four grandchildren.
Known throughout her life as a caring person, she worked as a homemaker raising her family, with children as a Lutheran school teacher, including at St. John’s Lutheran School in Red Bud, and with people with disabilities and older adults at Bellefontaine Place and Garden Place. A final act of kindness was donation of her brain to the Memory and Aging Project at Washington University.
She is survived by her husband, John; children Amy (Ariel) Wiatr-Rodriguez, Ted (Amanda) Wiatr, Maria (Robert) Aucoin, and Rosalie Montgomery; grandchildren Kayli and Max Wiatr and Josephine and Margot Aucoin; siblings Ruby Hering, Willard E. (Sue) Guebert, Marian Knop, and Eula Rehberg; sister-in-law Elaine Guebert; brothers-in-law Joseph Wiatr and Michael (Patricia Anderson) Wiatr; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, John S. and Rose Wiatr; brothers Marvin Guebert and Eugene Guebert; sisters-in-law Theresa Sherman, Mary Andrashie, Sandra Wiatr, and Pearl Wiatr; and brothers-in-law Paul Hering, Roger Knop, John Rehberg, Anthony Andrashie Sr., Albert Wiatr, and Stephen Wiatr.
The visitation will be from 4:00–7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 at Leesman Funeral Home, 220 Locust St. in Red Bud. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a 30 minute visitation prior to the service on Monday, September 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud, with Rev. Mark Winkelmann officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Red Bud, with a luncheon to follow at the church’s fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church and School in Red Bud or the Memory and Aging Project of Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis.
