Eugene R. Mathews, 84 yrs., of Columbia, IL. He was born in Columbia, IL, the son of the late Raymond and Catherine, nee Lieb, Mathews. He was married to Doris, nee Gardiner, Mathews, who survives him. They were married on September 15, 1956, at Walsh, IL.Eugene was a retired mechanic for Pennsylvania Truck Line. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Columbia, IL, and American Legion Post 581. He had served in the US Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was very active in his church community, and the Columbia Khoury League, where he coached many teams for over 20 years.
