Eugene F Frierdich's Obituary
Eugene F. Frierdich, 87, of Millstadt, Ill., born September 20, 1928 in Millstadt, Ill., passed away, Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Columbia Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Columbia, Ill.
Eugene often spoke of someday God reaching down, tapping him on the shoulder and telling him it was time to come home. At 6:45 p.m. he felt that tap.
Eugene retired from Hunter Meat Packing and from a life time of farming. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt. Through the years he and his wife Delores enjoyed traveling. Eugene’s passion was the land. When he wasn’t in a field on a tractor he was driving the grain truck. He also loved gardening. Every year he grew a huge garden and made many friends as he and his brother, Fritz, would sell their produce from the back of his truck alongside the road on Route 158 between Millstadt and Columbia. He enjoyed eating at his favorite restaurants; Reinhardts, Main Street Café and Denny’s making friends at each one.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Delores, nee Dannehold, Frierdich; his parents, Edward and Bertha, nee Hankammer, Frierdich; his brothers, Clemmons Frierdich, Victor Frierdich and Fritz Frierdich; his sisters-in-law, Florine Frierdich and Elaine Frierdich.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Audrey Frierdich of Millstadt; and two nephews. Eugene is also survived by other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the nurses, CNAs and entire staff of Columbia Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the outstanding love, care and compassion they showed Eugene. You were his ‘earth angels’.
