Ernest T. Werner's Obituary
Ernest T. Werner, born November 23, 1918 in St. Louis County, MO to Hugo and Christine Werner. Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife, Hazel Doris Werner, and brother, Herbert Werner. He is survived by his daughter, Jeannette Gangl and son-in-law, Gene, his brother, Bob Werner and sister-in-law, Charlotte, he is also survived by other relatives & friends. Ernie was drafted into the US Army in October 1941 served his country during WWII until December 1944 in England, North Africa and Italy. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts for injuries he sustained during his service. During his lifetime he worked as a Nash Parts Manager in Belleville; owned a TV repair business, and as an electrician. After retirement, he enjoyed his many hobbies of learning to play the accordion, many projects including woodworking, brass, steam engines and army jeeps. He had the mind of an engineer. He could come up with an idea, put the design to paper and build it in wood or metal and it would work. He had many ôoriginalsö during his lifetime. The hours spent in his workshop were his favorite. Ernie has been an active member in the St. Clair Farm Bureau, ILL-MO Engine Club, St. PaulÆs Lutheran Church in Columbia, IL., and most recently Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt, IL. He attended brass casting classes for years through SWIC at Freeburg High School. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Hospice of Southern Illinois or KFUO.
