Ernest Eugene Rhyne's Obituary
Ernest E. Rhyne, 86 years of Cahokia Heights, IL., passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at his residence. He was born September 8, 1935, in Alton, IL.
Ernest was retired from the United States Navy and then he worked an additional 20 years for the military Sealift Command. He was an avid scrapper and enjoyed riding his bicycle.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Peggy Lu Rhyne, nee Bartlett, his daughter, Janie "Mitzi" Rhyne, his four sons, Michael Thomas Rhyne, Bob Wayne Rhyne, Daniel Edward Rhyne and Richard Todd Rhyne, his grandchildren, Chase Kenner, Lindsey Townsend, Tyler Kenner Sr., Michael Thomas Rhyne Jr., Emma Rhyne, Bob Wayne Rhyne Jr., Chelsey Rhyne, Roxanne Hendrix, Brandy Marie Rhyne, Daniel Edward Rhyne Jr., Alyssa Rhyne and Lexi Rhyne, his 13 great grandchildren, and his sisters, Nancy Bartlett and Alberta Hellemeyer
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Eva May, nee Pierce, Rhyne and his grandson, Richard "Skip" Wolf Rhyne, his brothers, Johnny, Tommy, Marvin, Bill and Everett, and sister, Esther Cope and three in childhood.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, at Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, IL, with funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m.. Interment will follow with military honors in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
