He was born on Sunday, June 11, 1933, in Nashville, Ill., son of the late Vincent and Clara (Grzeskiewicz) Smugala. He was retired from Bank Building & Equipment, and Loughman Cabinet Co. as a cabinet maker. He served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Memberships include; Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Knights of Columbus Council #6165 - 4th Degree, past Grand Knight of Cahokia Council #4596, Past Faithful Navigator of Leo Jerome Assembly #1666, Knights of Columbus former District Deputy, past Eucharistic Minister at St. Anthony's Hospital, Columbia Senior Citizens, and American Legion Post #581.
