Earl J. Marks' Obituary
Chester- Earl J. Marks, 91, of Chester passed away at 6:40 PM, Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Three Springs Lodge in Chester.
Earl was born on July 6, 1930, in Alton to Birch and Bella (Milligan) Marks. He married Dorothy Ann Merz in 1953 and she preceded him in death on May 9, 2012.
Earl was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he operated and worked on large tractors. Once honorably discharged he returned home and worked several jobs before deciding that law enforcement was for him. He retired form the Randolph County Sheriff’s office where he worked as a jailor and special deputy.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ellis Grove and the Evansville American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed riverboat fishing and working on cars. Earlier he enjoyed racing and going to races. He will be truly missed by those that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his sons- Danny (Alice) Marks of Ft. Worth, TX and David (Theresa) Marks of Chester, daughter- Deborah (Ronnie) Grady of Iberia, MO, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, October 8, 2021, at Leesman Funeral Home in Red Bud. Rev. Paul Kurrelmeyer will officiate. Inurnment with military rites provided by the Evansville American Legion and the Illinois National Guard will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester. A memorial visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Friday at Leesman Funeral Home in Red Bud.
