Dorothy L. Roethe's Obituary
Dorothy Louise Roethe, 89, passed peacefully to her eternal life November 26, 2017.
Born June 29, 1928 in Pinckneyville, IL, Dorothy was the oldest of four children born to Julius and Lydia Beck (née Brune). Siblings Lucille (Roger) Pyatt, Eileen Beck, and Ronald (Ruth) Beck survive her. She married her life’s love, Walter “Dutch” Roethe, October 22, 1949, with whom she was blessed with four children: Thomas, Robert, Sherry (Kerry) Blass, and Steven (Cherie) Roethe; and six grandchildren: Nathan (Ashley) and Michael (Jessica) Roethe; Anna, April, and Arnie Blass; and Johnathan Nichols. Six great-grandchildren joyously completed her family.
Dorothy was first and foremost a mother, grandmother, and homemaker, but well known as a champion bowler, impressive cake baker, valedictorian of her class, and a magnet for babies and dogs.
She also assumed the role of caretaker for senior family members, faithfully spending many hours visiting, playing cards with, and taking on vacation those within her circle.
Although her exacting work ethic was in a class of its own, Dorothy enjoyed relaxing with a good mystery, hand embroidery, camping with her husband, and sharing a jigsaw puzzle with a fellow aficionado. A firm believer in following the rules, Dorothy had a clean driving record when she left this world.
She was preceded in death by infant sons Tommy and Bobbie, her beloved husband, and parents.
