In the 'ol days,when a person was waked,family and friends would bring the old family bible to the parlour or waking home of the deceased to catch up on family cousins (and history) by updating the genealogy orally and swapping stories.The DeRousse family of east Corondolette,Dupo, Prairie du Rocher, began with the arrival of Louis Jean DeRousse from St.Pierre,France in 1686 and settled in the Kaskaskia area.This family was true pioneers in the original sense of the word.
