Donald E. Winkelmann, 81 years of Red Bud, IL, passed away on July 2, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, O Fallon, IL. He was born December 27, 1936, in Red Bud, IL.
Donald was a foreman with Affco, Singer and Schneider General in Red Bud, IL. He worked at Wiegmann in Freeburg as well as the City of Red Bud taking care of the Parks.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marlene, nee Birkner, Winkelmann whom he married on September 3, 1962 at St. Augustine Church in Hecker, IL., Daughters, Michelle (John) Hick and Jody Winkelmann, Grandchildren, Erin (Travis) Krick, Jason (Amy) Hick, Brandon Hick and friend Kaley Allard, Great-Grandchildren, Sydney and Brewer Krick, and Colton and Lucy Hick, Brother, Arlin (Helen) Winkelman, Sister-in-law, Irma Birkner, Brother-in-law, David Nellis, along with other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Son, Michael Winkelmann, Parents, August and Dina, nee Mehring, Winkelmann, Sisters, Lucille (Henry) Fehr, Wahneta (Albert) Schrader and Alice (Gregory) Kalmer, Sister-in-law, Edna Nellis and Brother-in-law, Roland Birkner..
Visitation will be Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 4 - 8 p.m., at Koch-Liefer Funeral Home in Red Bud, IL and Friday, July 6, 2018, from 10 - 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Bud, IL. Services will be held Friday, July 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Bud, IL, with Pastor Russell Koen, officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Red Bud, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to St. John's Lutheran School or the Red Bud Senior Center Activity Fund.
