Donald Leo Ortmann's Obituary
Donald Leo Ortmann, 79 years, of Millstadt, IL, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Oak Hill Care Center in Waterloo, IL. He was born April 27, 1943, in Breese, IL.
Don was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL., Knights of Columbus Council 4741 in Millstadt, IL., Millstadt Commercial Club and the St. James Over 50 Club. Don enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, auctions, polka music and spending time with family and friends. Growing up in Belleville, he attended St. Teresa and Cathedral Grade School, and Belleville Township High School. Before an early retirement due to poor vision, he worked for Super-Valu, Lee's True Value, and Stratmann's IGA.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine Ortmann, nee Schneider-Henss, whom he married on December 28, 1973, and his three children, Joseph Henss, Jean Henss-Reinneck (Shane), and David Henss (Melyssa), and his three grandsons, Justin Reinneck (fiancee Haley Mueth), Nolan Reinneck, and Douglas Henss, his brother, Gerald (Barbara) Ortmann, his sister, Patricia (Gary) Kues, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, along with other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Helen, nee Kettler, Ortmann, his first wife, Mary Ann, nee Schaefer, Ortmann, his daughter-in-law, Susan, nee Glass, Henss, and his sister, Ruth Ann, who died in infancy.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL, and on Monday, November 21, 2022, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday November 21, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL., with Fr. Marvin C. Volk officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date.
