Delvira F. Hanegan's Obituary
Delvira F., nee Gummersheimer, Hanegan, 66 yrs., of Columbia, IL, passed away at Barnes Jewish Medical Center, St. Louis, MO. She was born in Red Bud, IL, the daughter of the late Arthur and Elvira, nee Klamp, Gummersheimer. She was married to Lawrence A. Hanegan, who survives her. They were married on April 25, 1969, at Columbia, IL.
Mrs. Hanegan was known as a strong, loving, and selfless wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her goal was to live life to the fullest and make it count and leave her mark on the world. Mrs. Hanegan was the most unique and special teacher for 43 years that students looked forward to having. Just walking through her classroom door you knew you stepped into another world with posters plastered on every inch of her wall with "Star Wars" quotes or inspiring quotes, to the backwards clock she had to confuse the clock watchers. Her creative mind and love of imagination opened the minds and hearts of her students to let them be free to be themselves and encouraged thinking outside the box. All her students will remember her favorite quote of Julius Caesar, "Beware the Ides of March", her creative writing class where she had freedom to open the minds of her students and truely shine as a teacher.
Del was a loyal and loving friend that would do anything for them, to make it known that they meant something to her. As a family we would like to thank those friends, a.k.a. "the ladies", for your love and support you have given her through friendship and to us as a family through this time.
Mom, we will greatly miss your love, support, strength, and selflessness that we will never forget and carry on your wishes as you have left your mark on us. "May The Force Be With You".
