OBITUARY
Deborah Donaldson Smith
May 23, 1947 - November 21, 2020
Born in East Orange, NJ, Debby spent her childhood and adolescence in Mountain Lakes, NJ, graduating from Mountain Lakes High School in 1965. She passed away at home with her family in St. Louis, MO.
Debby attended Mount Holyoke College, AB; Lincoln Land Community College (Springfield, IL), AS in Nursing, RN; University of Illinois (Springfield), BSN.
She taught elementary school on Guam and subsequently at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Springfield, IL. She worked several years at the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Illinois serving as Director of Nursing and Executive Director.
Debby volunteered for several years at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, MO and the Adult Literacy program in Monroe and Randolph counties in Southwestern IL.
Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Thurman Smith; her son, Brad A. Hassebrock; her stepchildren: Marlo C. Powell, Todd C. Smith, and Tyler M. Smith; her step grandchildren: Holly Kinsella; Adriana L. Smith, Maxwell and Hunter Powell, and Luke, Samuel and Charles Horner; her sister: Lynn Reichert and her brothers William R. Donaldson and Henry W. Donaldson; her sisters-in-laws: Sandy Donaldson and Margit Donaldson; her daughter-in-law, Margaret Hassebrock, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no public visitation. A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that the memorial contributions be directed to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
