OBITUARY
Darleen F. Scheffert
Darleen F. Scheffert, nee Krause, 94 years of Red Bud, IL., passed away on May 14, 2025. She was born June 4, 1930, to the late Paul and Ida Krause. She married Elroy Scheffert on November 5, 1950, and he preceded her in death on September 16, 1997.
Darleen attended St. John's Lutheran School, Red Bud High School and nurses training for one and a half years at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was employed at St. Clement Hospital for 42 years. Darleen was a member of the VFW in Freeburg, IL., St. John's Lutheran Evening Guild and Senior Circle. In her free time she enjoyed playing cards, baking, dancing, camping, crocheting and traveling, above of all else, she cherished spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Janel Kassing, Vickie Heller and Mark (Donna) Scheffert; 7 grandchildren, Scot (Sarah) Heller, Lisa (Tim) Luebkemann, Nicholas (Sarah) Kassing, Chrystie (Scott) Schoenbeck, Sara (Dale) Watson, Carl Scheffert and Alex Scheffert; She was blessed to be loved by her great-grandchildren, Brenden (Cami) Heller, Alyssa Heller, Lexi (Fiancé Michael) Luebkemann, Brie (Austin) Dillow, Emily (Fiancé Aaron) Luebkemann, Isaac Luebkemann, Drew Watson, Danielle Watson, Noah Kassing, Sydney Kassing, Natalie Kassing, Nolan Kassing, Grace Schoenbeck, Hannah Schoenbeck and Lydia Schoenbeck; her great-great grandchildren, Colton Heller and Blakelyn Heller; sister, Pearl Kruse and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Along with her loving husband Elroy and her dear parents Paul and Ida, Darleen was preceded in death by her sons-in-law Norbert Kassing and Dale Heller; brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Ruth Krause; brother-in-law Clyde Guebert; sister-in-law & brother-in-law Carol and William Wagner; nephews Gerald Guebert and Dwight Krause and her dear friend "Mac" McCarty.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 18, 2025, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at Leesman Funeral Home - Red Bud, IL, and Monday, May 19, 2025, 10:00 am - 11:00 am, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Red Bud, IL. Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday May 19, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Red Bud, with Rev. Mark Winkelman officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Bud, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or School, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or School or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
