Daniel Robert Karn
July 30, 1932-February 11, 2022
Born in Galveston, Indiana, Dan was the son of Reverend Robert and Ruby Karn. Dan graduated from Dupo Illinois High School and enlisted in the Air Force in September 1951. Dan served our country during the Korean War and was stationed in Northern Africa. He was the recipient of several medals including the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Dan was discharged in September 1955 and married Shirley Mae Ross Hopson on November 19, 1956.
Dan and Shirley made St. Louis their home and Dan worked for General Motors while attending night school and completing coursework to become an accountant. He held positions at several local CPA firms for more than 30 years.
Dan loved boating and spent many weekends enjoying a second home at Lake of the Ozarks. He also enjoyed playing cards, and always had a new card trick for family and friends. He loved to tell jokes and work unique brain games.
Later in life, Dan married Oleta F Bruner in 2008 and moved to Kettering, Ohio where he was a member of Christ Church United Methodist. He enjoyed reading, watching sports and spending time with his extended family.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Shirley Mae Karn, son Kevin Daniel Karn and three brothers Grant, David and Roger Karn.
Dan was the loving husband of Oleta Bruner; father of Tom (Cheri) Karn and JoAnn Karn; step-father to Pride (Anne), Faith (Jim) and Justus Bruner; grandfather of four grandchildren Bridget (Kyle) Jutz, Amy Karn, Terrah Bruner and Tasha Bruner; great grandfather of Charlie, Lilly and Abby Jutz; and a cousin, uncle and nephew to a large extended family.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm Thursday, February, 17 at Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering, Ohio with services at 10 am Friday, February 18 at Christ Church United Methodist in Kettering.
Visitation in St. Louis will be from 5pm-8pm on Monday, February 21 at Leesman Funeral Home in Columbia, Illinois. Burial be at 10 am Tuesday, February 22 at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Christ Church United Methodist, Kettering, OH or the Wounded Warrior project in honor of all our past and present service members.
