Mr. Huwer was such an amazing role model for me during those awkward High School years at Red Bud High School. His booming, friendly voice echoed down the halls, in the gym and out on the track encouraging us to make the right decisions and making us all feel special. He was so generous, sharing his precious time and talent with us. I know he's still watching out for us all as a loving Guardian Angel. Mary Kay Harrison
Dale will be so warmly remembered and sadly missed by all of us who knew him. We were so blessed to have Dale with us at Red Bud District 132 for many years. He was loved and respected by students, teachers, and staff. His positive influence on so many young people is a lasting tribute to a wonderful, caring man. I am thankful for all the great memories I have of him as a teaching colleague, teacher and track coach of my daughters, and friend .Our little part of southwestern Illinois is better in many ways from Dale's contributions to our lives and our communities.

I had the privilege of working with Dale for many years at CHS. He served honorably as teacher and a coach. We became friends and had many discussions in my office and at Tequilla’s with other staff. Dale cared deeply about his students and loved his family. Many young people from Red Bud and Columbia are better adults because they were educated and instructed by Coach Huwer. Growing up part of the Wolfmeier Trucking Family, it was hard not to love your Dad. I can remember the days of seeing a spreader truck coming down the road over the summer, and telling whoever I was with at the time "I bet that's Dale in there!"
He always had a smile on his face, his hat bill rounded perfect and never failed to ask how everyone else was doing.
I guarantee Homecoming will not be the same without that truck stopping out front, and the picnic table full of you guys in the back this year.
My heart goes out to you, Dan and JoElla. I hope you all can find comfort in all the good times and memories.

It is sad to learn that Dale has passed away. I loved our conversations when I came to Columbia every other year for our student exchange. Dale was always interested in our program and there were always Gedern students in his Health classes and they enjoyed them. They always loved Dale speaking some German to them because it made them feel special. Dale had a good humor so it was always uplifting to talk to him. I will keep him in very good memory.
He was my coach and mentor while at RBHS. A positive force in my younger days. This original old Mudhog is honored to have known your father Rachel. Rest easy Coach.
