Laura Schwartz was my BFF in early elementary school. We played soccer together, Mr. Schwartz was our coach. As goalie, taught me how to block a shot by rolling my mid-section inward to avoid sharp pain. It was priceless information for a shy kid, I felt invincible when I could keep the opposing team from scoring, especially in such dramatic fashion. He taught me to face the opposition fearlessly and how to be tough. This helped build my confidence as an athlete and in other ways. I am from a large family and my parents couldn’t commit to taking me to all the practices and games. Mr. Schwartz said, no worries, I will make sure she has a ride and would take me to all of them. Later in life, I was in a very difficult spot after my high conflict divorce. I reached out to Laura, she responded with, “I am on it”. The next thing I know Mr. Schwartz is on the phone with me. He provided strong legal guidance, wrote letters on my behalf to calm the storm with my ex and kept me out of the crippling expensive courtroom. Once again, he propped me up by helping me face the opposition without fear. He did not charge me for his services, he knew I was broke at the time. I will be forever grateful to Mr. Schwartz and to Laura. Mr. Schwartz helped my family on more than one occasion with other legal situations free of charge. I will let my other family members provide the details for themselves. ;) Mr. Schwartz knew his skills and legal knowledge could help make a difference for our family, he did not hesitate to help, and offered his time and skills unselfishly. I am saddened to hear of his passing. The McDevitt family will always be grateful to Mr. Schwartz. We love the Schwartz family and consider them lifelong friends. Laura and family, please know the McDevitts are praying for you during this difficult time and our memories of your father’s kindness will always be cherished. God Bless
