Charles Edwin "Chuck" Knollman Jr.'s Obituary
Charles E. “Chuck” Knollman, Jr., 86, of Dupo, IL., born, September 19, 1930 in St. Louis, MO., passed away, Monday, February 27, 2017 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
Charles was a lifetime alumni of St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He was a member of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity and in his senior year of college, President of Student Council. In 2014, he retired after 60 years of employment. In those years, he became a veteran of the U.S. Army, Chief Pharmacist at Koch Hospital and City Hospital in St. Louis, owner of Dupo Pharmacy for 25 years, provided relief work at many places in Southern Illinois, and in later years, worked part time at the Medicine Shop in Cahokia. He was a past Vice President of Hill Toppers Swim Club, charter member of the original Dupo Lion’s Club, a very proud inductee of the “Dupo Walk of Fame”, and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dupo, since 1969. He expressed “Many Thanks” to the people who supported his store in Dupo.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Knollman, nee Miller, parents, Charles Sr and Albertina, nee Kleusner, Knollman, sister, Janet (Harry) Gissy, father and mother-in-law, Ed and Jessie Miller, sisters-in-law, Liz (Fred) Gill, Kathryn (Roy) Koch, Bev Hight, and brother-in-law, Donald Kearns.
He is survived by his wife, Janis Hurley, nee Hight, son, Charles Knollman III, daughter, Monica (Mark) Bauer, sister, Elmyra Kearns, step sons, Donald (Lisha) Hurley II, David Hurley, sister-in-law, Carolyn (Gary) Schremp, brothers-in-law, Jerry (Karen) Hight and James Hight, grandchildren, Heidi Long, Courtney (Willy) Barlow, Charles Knollman IV, Derek Bauer, step-granddaughters, Jessica Marek, and Brittani Hurley. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorials may be made to DuKare, St. Vincent DePaul, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, IL. and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Funeral will be on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dupo, IL, with Father Linus Umoren officiating.
Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Columbia, IL.
