Cezar Columbia's K-9's Obituary
I give my sincere thanks to all the citizens, civic organizations, Columbia schools, city government, friends and family for making the journey for Cezar and myself possible. Cezar was my life for 8 plus years and the best partner anyone could ever have. From his loud aggressive bark toward individuals approaching our patrol car on the street to resting at my bedside, Cezar always protected me and anyone around us every step of the way. During our lifetime together, I would give him a pat on the back and say "Goodnight buddy" before going to sleep. When I woke up, I heard the sound of his collar as he lifted his head from the floor. Those two things changed on May 19th. One that has not changed is our mission we shared together. Cezar was full of excitement and could not get out the front door fast enough to go to work. His attitude reached beyond the stars when it came time to protect life and property and enhance the quality of life for our citizens.
In the months prior to Cezar and I beginning our journey together for the first time, I had the opportunity to care for Captain Jerry Landgraf (Ret.) as we transported him back home by ambulance one last time before his passing. Captain Landgraf and I talked about me handling the Police Department’s first four legged partner. Before he passed, Captain Landgraf saw an angel that he drew on paper. I’m certain Jerry’s angel has found a place under his wing for Cezar where he continues to watch over myself and the many others he protected.
Cezar, may you rest in peace and know that your work will not be forgotten. You are now 10-42.
