Carl Edgar Maschmeyer's Obituary
Carl Edgar Maschmeyer, 87 years of Waterloo, IL, passed away on September 16, 2023 at de Greeff Hospice House, St. Louis, MO. He was born August 3, 1936, in Glen Ridge, NJ.
On August 23, 1959, in Long Island, New York, he was united in marriage to Barbara Wyland and to this union two children were born. They shared forty-seven years of marriage together until her passing on November 25, 2005.
Carl served our country proudly in the Navy for four years, then he attended college on the G.I. Bill. After graduation, he served in the Air Force for thirty years and retired as a Lt. Col.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Columbia, IL, a lifetime member of NRA, an Amateur Radio enthusiast, and an avid sportsman.
Surviving are his son, Carl F. (Cynthia) Maschmeyer, several grandchildren, including Helen (Aaron) Maschmeyer-Douglas, and Carl E.M. Maschmeyer. Carl is also survived by his special friend, Marjorie Drexler.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Carl F. (Dorothy) Maschmeyer, wife, Barbara Maschmeyer, and daughter, Erica Rutledge.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 20, 2023, 5:00pm - 8:00pm, at Leesman Funeral Home, Columbia, IL. An additional visitation will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023, 10:00am - 11:00am, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Services will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 11:00am, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Steven Krenz officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Columbia, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 227 Goodhaven, Columbia, IL 62236.
