Calvin W. Fries' Obituary
Calvin W. Fries, 84 of Columbia, IL, passed away on October 16, 2018 at Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, MO. He was born August 11, 1934, in Valmeyer, IL. He was married to Carol, nee Beckerle, Fries, who survives him. They were married November 17, 1956, in Columbia, IL.
Cal was a member of American Legion Post 581, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, and honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6165, Columbia, IL, Columbia Gymnastic Association, and the Monsanto Local #12 Retirees. He had worked as a laborer with Luhr Brothers Construction Co., Columbia, IL. He had served in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Also surviving are his children; Kevin (Pam) Fries of Columbia, IL, Kathy (Doug) Schroeder of St. Louis, MO, Kurt (Tammy) Fries of Millstadt, IL, Karen (Casey) Dunn of Binghamton, NY, Kent (Sara) Fries of Mendocino, CA, Donna (Mark) Albers of Sarasota, FL, and Michelle (Roy) Kelling of Columbia, IL; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Imogene Yarbrough of Waterloo, IL; along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Armin and Pearl, nee Trost, Fries; brother, Karle A. Fries.
Visitation will be Sunday, October, 21, 2018, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia, IL, and Monday, October, 22, 2018, 9:00 am - 10:00 am, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, IL. Funeral Mass will be held, Monday, October 22, 2018, at 10:00 am at church, with Fr. Carl Scherrer, officiating. Interment will follow in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
