Betty Jean Schmidt's Obituary
Betty Jean Schmidt, 85 years of Columbia, IL, passed away on June 2, 2017 at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Louis, MO. She was born November 18, 1931, in Belleville, IL, daughter of the late Clarence and Lorene Rose, nee Waigand, Rickert. She was married to the late Robert H. Schmidt.
Betty was a proud member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She had retired from St. Elizabeth's Hospital as a switchboard operator. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and loved to spend most of her time, in later years, attending church picnics, listening to music, and playing Bingo with her friend, Jim Juengling. The family of Betty Schmidt wishes to thank the staff of Columbia Convalescent Center for the care they have extended to Betty during the time she was a resident there.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Rusteberg; two grandchildren, Rachel (fiancee Ronnie Mahan) Rusteberg, and Alicia Rusteberg; great-grandchild, Brenley Mahan; brother, Alan (Carol) Rickert; five sister-in-laws, Pearl Mueller, Sue Schmidt, Julie Schmidt Gregory, Norma Rickert, and Sharon Rickert; brother-in-law, Richard Schmidt; along with other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Mark E. Schmidt; two sisters, Darlene Ebersohl, and June Kish; and two brothers, Clarence Rickert, and Dennis Rickert.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7, 2017, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 8, at 10:00 am, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, IL, with Fr. Carl Scherrer, officiating. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Columbia, IL.
