Betty A Courtney, 95 years of Waterloo, IL, passed away on March 1, 2026 at Cedarhurst, Waterloo, IL. She was born March 19, 1930, in East St. Louis, IL.
Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church, Columbia, IL, where she started up the church's quilters club and was active until recent years. She was formally a choir director, Sunday School teacher, church pianist, and Youth Director. She had previously belonged to the Maplewood Baptist Church, Cahokia, IL, and the North Dupo Bible Church. She had taught piano lessons locally for over 45 years.
Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Skipper of Columbia, IL, Gail (Gary) Bierman of Percy, IL, and Jennifer (Jeff) Komorek of O'Fallon, MO; grandchildren, Anthony Fry, Jesse Scriven, Taylor Komorek, and Mason Komorek, great-grandchildren, Garrett, Reagan, Journey and Adventure Fry, Ali Narez, Eli and Charli Scriven, along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Margaret, nee Lanman, Tilton; son, Michael G. Skipper; brothers, Ronald Tilton, George Tilton; sisters, Ruth Delorenzis, Edna Hahn; 1st husband, Jesse Skipper; 2nd husband Eugene Courtney.
Visitation will be Monday, March 9, 2026, 9:00am - 11:00am, at First Baptist Church of Columbia, IL. Memorial Service will follow visitation at 11:00am at the church with Pastor Jonathan Peters officiating.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1200 Valmeyer Road, Columbia, IL 62236.
