Arlin August Winkelman's Obituary
Arlin August Winkelman, 96 years of Red Bud, IL, passed away peacefully at 6:12 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024. Arlin was born August 12, 1928 to August & Dina (Mehring) Winkelman.
Arlin worked at Singer and Schneider for many years until his retirement. Arlin served in the United States Army from September 23, 1952 to September 10, 1954. Arlin was awarded the VFW Patriotic Citizen of the year award on Veterans Day, November 11, 2024. Arlin had a love for card games, especially Euchre and enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren & great grandchildren. Arlin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Red Bud, IL, the Randolph County Farm Bureau, V.F.W. Post 6632, Red Bud, IL, and the American Legion Post 622 in Prairie du Rocher, IL.
Surviving are Arlin's wife of 72 years, Helen (Kaiser) Winkelman, his two children, Curtis Winkelman and Nancy (Winkelman) & Bruce Cowell, his grandchildren, Kyle (Katie) Winkelman, Caleb (Michelle) Cowell, Tanner (Nicole) Winkelman, Brook (Jordan) Matthews, Morgan Cowell & Fiance (Griffin Ziebold), his great grandchildren, Owen, Wyatt & Witten Cowell, Charlie, Nora, Paisley and Oakley Matthews, his sister-in-law, Marlene (Birkner) Winkelman, along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August & Dina Winkelman, his daughter-in-law, Sherry (Poirrier) Winkelman, his sisters, Lucille (Henry) Fehr, Wahneta (Albert) Schrader and Alice (Gregory) Kalmer, and his brother, Donald Winkelman.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Leesman Funeral Home in Red Bud, IL., and on Monday, December 23, 2024 an hour before the service at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Bud, IL. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Bud, IL., with Pastor Brian Nowak, officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Red Bud, IL.
