Albert Edward Gregson's Obituary
Albert Edward Gregson, 84, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Red Bud Hospital, Red Bud, Illinois.
He was born September 7, 1939 in Red Bud, Illinois, where he lived his entire life. He was the oldest child of Edward Guy and Dorothy Ann (Meikamp) Gregson.
On June 4, 1960, he married the love of his life, Mildred Besher, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Red Bud, Illinois, she survives.
Other survivors include their three sons: Daniel (Pam), Dean (Lisa) and Douglas (Sarah Wuertz); six grandchildren: Cassie (Ryan) Cantrell, Christine (Jay) Shive, Danielle (Marshall) Schellhardt, Katharine (Catelyn) Gregson, Matthew (Sadie) Gregson and Andrew Gregson; ten great-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild; one sister-in-law, Shirley (Besher) Allers and two brothers-in-law, Robert and Glen Besher. He will be missed by his many friends and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, his sister Edith Besher; three brothers-in-law, John Allers, Raymond Besher and Eugene Meister and two sisters-in-law, Irene Meister and Marcella Besher.
Albert was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a well-respected member of the community, owning several businesses in his lifetime. He owned Al’s repair shop in Hecker, Illinois, then went to work as a mechanic at Ratz Ford Dealership in Red Bud. He also owned A & B Guns and Al’s Automotive Repair in Red Bud.
He was an avid hunter, casual farmer, an excellent marksman, and life-long member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, serving on various committees, including the cemetery committee. He was also a member of the Optimist Club, NRA, Farm Bureau, Turkey Wildlife Federation, Red Bud Zoning Board and the New Athens Nursing Home Board.
Visitation will be at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024. Service will follow immediately at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Pastor Corey Hartz presiding. Interment will take place at St. Marcus Cemetery following services. A luncheon will be served following the graveside service back at the Church.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to St. Peter United Church of Christ, Christian Education Fund, 403 Madison St, Red Bud, IL 62278.
