Adam G. Mernick Jr., 93 years of Dupo, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at his residence. He was born October 29, 1929, in East St. Louis, IL.
Adam worked as a passenger service supervisor for TWA Airlines for 30 + years, he later worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road as a carman for 20 years, he was the General Assistant Administrator for Sugarloaf Township for 8 years, member of Dupo Community School District 196 for 13 years, serving as president from 1968-1969, trustee for the Village of Dupo from 1989-1993, Mayor of Dupo from 1993-1997, member of Dupo Fire Department from 1950-1973, Dupo Police Officer from 1953-1963, President of the Dupo Quarterback Club for 10 years, Chairman of the Dupo Educators Hall of Fame for 4 years, Christ United Church of Christ in Dupo, IL., and served on the church council for 12 years, he was a member of Columbia Blue Lodge #474 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years, Scottish Rite Bodies, 32nd degree mason for over 50 years and an Ainad Shriner for over 50 years.
Surviving are his Children, Judy (Ron) Hunsaker, Dennis (Deborah) Mernick, Mindy Radosevich and Linda (Ken) Phillips, his grandchildren, Ron (Amber) Hunsaker, Ryan (Tanya) Hunsaker, Sarah (Jim) Williams, D.J. (Kacie) Mernick, Molly (Dan) Hepp, Michael (Samantha) Mernick, Anna (Adam) Strubhart, Amy (Nick) Feist, Derek (Megan) Radosevich, Jacob (Jessica) Phillips and Josh (Michelle McAbee) Phillips, his great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Ronnie Jr., Olivia, Megan, Ryan, Luke, Emma, Lucy, Peyton, Gracie, Reagan, James, Theodore, Claire, Monroe, Weston, Wyatt, Makenna, Mason, Mila, Adalyn, Reese, Alydia, Ethan, Ahnalee, Hannah and Arizona, his sister-in-law, Florence Brown, he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Esther Anna Mernick, nee, Breuer, his parents Adam E. and Ruby, nee, Goley, Mernick and his brother, Michael Mernick.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, IL., and on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m. at Christ United Church of Christ in Dupo, IL. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ United Church of Christ in Dupo, IL., with Rev. Todd Mushaney, officiating. Interment will follow in the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia, Illinois.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Christ United Church of Christ or charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were handled by Leesman Funeral Home.
