OBITUARY Barbara A. Schutte Barbara A. Schutte, 85, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was born on September 29, 1936, in Dupo to Omer and Viola (Bock) Weisenborn. She graduated from Columbia High School where she was a cheerleader. She married "Ed" Clarence Schutte on September 30, 1978 in Columbia. Barbara had a strong Christian faith in God and was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia. She sang in the church choir since age 8 all the way to Chancel Choir. She also served on the Board of Education, Church Consistory and Job's Daughter. She also attended First Community Church in Haines City, FL when they were in town. Barbara began her career with AT&T then later worked as a Supervisor for Southwestern Bell until her retirement. She and Ed were both members of the Southwestern Bell Pioneers Club for retirees. She was stubborn and adventurous woman who enjoyed reading murder mysteries as well as teaching and playing golf. She liked playing bocce ball, quilting and embroidery. She will be missed. Surviving are her husband, "Ed" Clarence Schutte of Columbia, step children- Gerald (Barbara) H. Schutte of Ballwin, MO, David (Mitzi) Schutte of Collinsville and Donna Freidman of Collinsville, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother, Wayne (JoAnn) Weisenborn of Columbia, 2 brother in laws- Ronald (Pauline) Schutte and Bob Schutte and many nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents step daughter, Sylvia Sumner; and 3 sisters, Gloria Morton, Florence Farmer and Loretta Frazier, one brother, Harold Weisenborn and sister in law- Sharon Schutte. . Visitation will be Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday December 8, 2021, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia. Rev. Elizabeth Terrill will officiate. Interment will follow in the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Leesman Funeral Home in Columbia. Due to current CoViD-19 mitigation, masks will be required for all attendees; vaccinated or not. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ of Columbia and will be accepted at the funeral home and church.
