I only knew Nick since 2011, but he always will remain in my heart as an old soul in a young man. He loved classic Beatles and other great music and had the weirdest sense of humor and infectious smile. I'm not sure what happened to him (I just found out about his passing today), but I do know that he's waiting for his friends to get up to heaven to hang out. He's no longer in pain and I'm sure he's happy. You will be missed, Nick! <3

Nick lived in the same duplex as us, and when you share walls with someone, you know their intimate life often before you meet. I knew he was always a good man, but it wasn't until my last night living next to him that I found out how truly awesome he was. My then-boyfriend (now husband) wasn't in town to help me move out. Nick and one of his buddies heard all my banging and came over to investigate. Once they saw there was so much work still to be done, he and his buddy hung out and helped me pack up, fill holes, carry heavy items to the trash, etc. GRUNT WORK. his friend left after the beer was gone but Nick stayed and helped for a few more hours into the early morning. The last couple hours we mostly sat and talked about nothing in particular while we boxed things up and swept. I was saddened he and I hadn't hung out more as neighbors but was thankful to have made a new friend before leaving. I'm saddened to know that will forever be my last conversation with such a genuinely kindhearted man. some people may only be in your life for moments, but they can shine the brightest. My thoughts are with his family and his girlfriend and her children during this time.
Nicky, from the very first day I met you at Red Cross I knew we would be friends. You soon won the hearts of Ann, Nancy, and I. You became one of my "Boys" and all three of us wanted to mother you and we did! You made us laugh and gave us so many wonderful memories to keep close in our hearts. My life is better for having you share my journey. What a huge heart you have and that amazing smile!
To Mary and your family, I wish I had words to share that would ease your pain. May it bring you comfort knowing how many people Nick touched in his life. My most sincere condolences. I will keep all of in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the pleasure of working with Nick during his time with the American Red Cross in Norfolk. He was a part of our Red Cross family and even though he eventually moved on we stayed in touch.
I know in time that the sadness will pass, our memories of you will make us smile and know that our lives were made better because we knew you.
when nicks beagles would get loose they would always come over to my house looking around. i would always scoop them up and let me tell you they were not lite :) i would take them home and knock on the door and nick would always say. i cant believe they got loose i hope they did not cause any trouble.. what a sweet kid.... god bless his loving soul.. rest in peace sweetheart... god be with your family... mark and barb wottowa
